The American Petroleum Institute (API) is the trade association that represents all aspects of the natural gas and oil industries in the United States. The vast majority of the country's energy is generated, processed, and distributed by its almost 600 members. More than ten million jobs are supported by the industry in the United States, and it has the backing of a growing grassroots movement that includes millions of Americans. More than 700 standards have been produced by API with the goals of improving operational and environmental safety, as well as efficiency and sustainability.
