The shipbrokers in the port of Rotterdam are represented by the Association of Rotterdam Shipbrokers (VRC), which looks out for their best interests and works to promote them. The VRC is working toward the goal of maintaining the attractiveness of the Port of Rotterdam as a destination for ships and cargo by representing the members' interests to all relevant parties. Between the years 1889 and 1969, the association was a component of the 'Scheepvaart Vereniging Zuid (SVZ), but beginning in 1969, the VRC developed its own identity as an independent association.
