The company was founded in 1972, originally as a seafarer dispatch business, before expanding into ocean-going vessel ownership and management. Its operations cover bulk carriers and other ocean-going ships, including newbuilding orders for dual-fuel LNG and methanol-powered vessels. The company employs onshore staff alongside a large seagoing workforce and maintains a long-standing partnership with a Philippine manning company for crew supply. Since 2024, Santoku Senpaku has been part of the ORIX Group following a capital investment by ORIX Corporation. The company continues to operate from its Osaka head office, overseeing shipowning, management and crewing activities for its managed fleet.
