In June of 1974, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) launched its shipbuilding business by simultaneously finishing the construction of the world's largest shipyard and two 260,000-DWT VLCCs. This marked the company's official beginning in the shipbuilding industry. A decade after making its first delivery, the Hyundai Shipyard surpassed 10 million deadweight tons in aggregate ship production. Ever since then, the shipyard has kept its position as one of the most important players in the global shipbuilding market.
