Sealift Inc. is a privately held ship owner and operator based in Oyster Bay, New York, incorporated in 1975. The company began as a shipbrokerage house handling paper, rice and general cargo, running breakbulk liner services to the Mediterranean and from Brazil. Today Sealift operates several U.S.-flag, ocean-going vessels and charters numerous foreign-flag ships each year, acting as one of the larger non-U.S. flag ocean transportation contractors for U.S. Government food aid cargoes. All chartering, operations, engineering, crewing, IT and accounting functions are managed from its Oyster Bay office. The company holds ISM approval and ISO 9001:2000 certification and operates as a certified small business without government operating subsidy.
